Fifth Zamyatnin Readings
On April 12, 2022, in the Council Hall of the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design the traditional scientific conference of the Department of Archeology of the MAE (Kunstkamera) RAS, the Fifth Zamyatnin Readings, was opened. The format of the event this year is an all-Russian conference with international participation. Its main themes are: Abstract Forms in Ancient and Modern Fine Art and Ornament, Interdisciplinary Dialogue: Archeology - Ethnography - Art Criticism. The three-day program of the conference includes more than 50 scientific reports.
Welcoming speeches at the opening of the Fifth Zamyatnin Readings were made by the Director of the MAE (Kunstkamera) RAS Andrei V. Golovnev and the rector of the Stieglitz State Academy Anna N. Kislitsyna.
“Returning to the initial reflections on the Paleolithic,” Andrei V. Golovnev said, “they show that man is a pictorial being. And in many ways, the formation of human culture is a pictorial transformation of the world, its comprehension through visuality. It is 10 times older than writing; it is 100 times older than printed text. We consider ourselves people of words, books, but this is so only to a small extent.”
“For our academy, communication with scientists, who are also immersed in the study of prehistoric art forms and ornamentation, is extremely important. After all, all these elements are studied by our students during the educational process, and one way or another, all of them are embodied in works of art, for example, in objects of decorative and applied art of our department of metal processing, our department of artistic textiles, our department of glass and ceramics " - said Anna N. Kislitsyna.
After the Plenary session on the first day of the Zamyatnin Readings in the White and Gothic Halls of the Museum of the Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design the opening of the exhibition "Abstract forms in art: from antiquity to the present" was held.
